You don't have to look at all these pictures. They are mostly there for me to remember.
First sights coming out of the Metro. I should mention that the Danish really decorate for Christmas. The only thing that I didn't like is that there really isn't any connection between Christ and the holiday in the decorations.
Den lille Havfrue: The Little Mermaid.
A successful brewery owner fell in love with the story of the Little Mermaid, recorded by Hans Christian Andersen (also Danish). He commissioned this statue, with his wife as the model and gifted it to the city of Copenhagen. I wish I could capture it with my camera. It is really beautiful with her sitting on the rocks, just out of reach of the land where she gazes longingly for a glimpse of her prince.
A cute dog who wanted to run, and was NOT interested at looking at the swans.
The entrance to an ancient star shaped fortress with a star shaped moat.
This fortress is still used today, and houses a memorial to her country's dead.
"Merry Christmas Charlie Brown!"
The commander's house
A random windmill on the ramparts of the fort
An adorable church which was sadly closed when were were there.
Another cute dog for mom. I failed to get a picture of the adorable Bulldog which was more like a cat.
Does anyone know who this is?
Look at those bricks! It must have taken ages.
The Russian Orthodox church.
The Marble Church, which we waited in the bitter cold to get into.
The inside of the Marble Church
Malls spare no expense when it comes to decorations here...
Christianshaven Palace, I think...
We were shop and museum hopping because it was so cold. Pretty much if you had a heater, we were there. We stumbled across this museum that was pretty cheap and decided to give it a go. Wow. We had no idea where we were. Just scroll and wait...
A random prince I thought was handsome. I should mention, all Danes are very tall and very handsome. I don't know if I'm genetically programmed to to find them handsome because I share DNA with them, but that's how it is. And seriously, the people are taller than average. I will have to find the data to prove it some time.
Walter Scott...more dead poets...
Lord Byron...loved everywhere but his own home.
Yeah. We found this on accident. I was stuck dumb in awe.
I don't know if you can appreciate how huge these statues are. I assure you however, if one fell over, you would die. Quickly. I didn't even make it up to the horse's knees.
Thorvaldsen, the sculptor, is buried in the courtyard of his own museum. He willed all his artwork to Denmark even though he did most of it in Italy. They built this museum especially for his works.
Tivoli Gardens
This one is for Mom
This one is for Dad
I told myself I can never visit the same place twice because there are so many places to see and I don't think I'll have the opportunity to travel very much. I may have to break my rule. I love Denmark more than I can explain. Our one short trip was not enough. I only hope I can come back some day.
